Those are also deep in Heartland Farm States and agriculture plays a substantial role in overall states economy.
The untold story is many farms are barely clinging on ..
Prices are down and input co$ts went thru the stratosphere, and Big Agri-buisness can over produce make up in volume.
Remeber the 1980s many small farming communities living the exact same thing today but a Farmer is too "Proud" to complain they just keep it all inside throw up a tough facade ..

Most people dont care about out "Farmers" sure Trumps Sectretary of Agriculture gonna send out checks to farmers funded by "Tariffs" but to farmers its a mere band-aid on a gunshot wound.
China "Finally" placed big orders for Pork and Soybeans recently but China was looking to South America Argentina & Brazil early cutting season.
The grain elevators were bursting at the seams even turning farmers away cant even low-ball offer ya a check our storage is full we orders and Rail-Containers going out.
Many years ago when Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1970s early 1980s we put an "Embargo" on Grain Shipments the Soviet Union.
Crop Prices dropped like a rock at the same time we had "Double Digits" Interest Rates 12/15 percent to kill the Inflation of the 1970s off and the Dollar and prices "Stabilized" by the mid to late 1980s
Meantime Farmers across the "Heartland" Midwest were going belly up , over extended on Bank Notes for "Operating Loans" at very high Interest but harvest season the $$$ didnt add up
